Farewell Sigurna Luka
Nestled right in the heart of old town Rovinj, with it’s cobbled streets and Venetian architecture, is our retreat from the world – was our hideaway, our haven, our holiday apartment - Sigurna Luka.
However, after four years of welcoming guests from around the globe into our little corner of Croatia, it's time to let the apartment go, and move on.
Why have we sold Sigurna Luka?
I bought the apartment with my wife, Kate, a little over five years ago. We did a large amount of the renovation work ourselves during many happy weeks spent in Rovinj. We got a great deal of pleasure preparing it for, and eventually letting it to, our guests, safe in the knowledge that they too would come to Rovinj and fall in love with the place.
Sadly Kate died three years ago, and whilst initially I could not bear to part with the apartment, were she here today she'd have been the first to nudge me in the ribs and say, "hey, come on, it's time to start a new project." And indeed it is.
So, in October (of 2009) I waved farewell to our last guests, then closed up and sold the apartment to a nice couple from Italy. I hope that they get as much pleasure from owning it as we did.
Thinking of visiting Rovinj?
Don't let the fact that we've sold the apartment put you off visiting Rovinj. There are countless other apartments (details of how to find them are listed below). If you've got the opportunity I encourage you to visit Istria, and particularly Rovinj, and relax and to enjoy this beautiful town, and it’s charming people, set against the backdrop of blue skies and the Adriatic Sea, with the sound of seagulls and church bells in the air.
Don't take my word for it though, click here and here to visit my brother's blog, and to experience Rovinj through his eyes.
Places to stay
My friends Tessa and Paul have several wonderful apartments in Croatia, my favorite of which is Lukovima which has fabulous views over Rovinj's harbour. You can find all their apartments at Rovinj-apartment.com
Holidaylettings.co.uk is very popular. Most of my guests found me via their excellent website. See what they have in Rovinj here.
Rovinj.info is a site local to the area and has an entire section dedicated to advertising apartments in the town. Many of the locally owned apartments featured do not appear on Holiday Lettings. I particularly like the way the map facility allows to you see exactly where the apartment is.
Finally, my good friend Sanja and her assistant Samanta, from elim.hr, manage about twenty apartments throughout Rovinj. If you're making a last minute trip to Rovinj (or maybe you're there right now) it's worth dropping her a line. You can contact her directly via her website.
